5 Healthy Chai Ingredients

Two Leaves and a Bud’s name for Mountain High Chai took inspiration from the Colorado mountains around us and the regions in India where the spices and Assam tea of this health benefiting drink originated.

The spices in our Organic Mountain High Chai tea are as delicious as they are full of health benefits. History tells us chai, or more accurately, Masala Chai, meaning “spiced tea” originated 5000 – 9000 years ago in the royal courts of the Assam region of India. It was created as a drink to support health and cure illness. The list below is a sampling of the health benefits a good cup of Two Leaves and a Bud Organic Mountain High Chai tea can deliver.

  • Ginger - Ginger is an antibacterial that aids with nausea and indigestions, and can help lower blood sugar. Did you know that a lot of ginger is grown in the Assam region of India.  Assam, a black tea is often used in Chai blends.
  • Cinnamon – Cinnamon, which is actually the bark of a tree, is a strong antioxidant and anti inflammatory, it aids in heart health and blood sugar reduction and is a delicious way to support those with type 2 diabetes.
  • Cardamom – part of the same plant family as ginger, can be found and used as a powder, essential oil and of course, in the form as the whole seed pod.  Cardamom is another power house antioxidant and has strong antibacterial properties. It has been shown to help lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol as well support healthy blood sugar levels.
  • Clove – Did you know that cloves are the flower bud of the clove tree? Cloves have multiple health benefits and is good for supporting liver health, blood sugar and preserving bone mass.  Clove is also a strong anti-bacterial, shown to kill three common strains of bacteria and is effective in maintaining good oral health.
  • Black tea – Tea has many health benefits. While not a spice, tea is a strong antioxidant and can support lowered cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar.  It can boost exercise endurance, (have a cup of tea before your next fitness class!) Tea might be an effective agent in the prevention and treatment of neurological diseases, especially degenerative diseases (think Alzheimer’s).

Drinking Organic Mountain High Chai tea on a regular basis is an easy and delicious way of incorporating these five health benefiting spices into your every day routine.

Two Leaves and a Bud are becoming chai specialists! Besides our Organic Mountain High Chai tea, we also offer “Nice Chai” tea latte mix.
