The secret to looking good and feeling good: drink water

We hope you enjoy this article written by our guest blogger, Leslie Woodward, a holistic nutritionist and yoga therapist who loves Two Leaves and a Bud Tea.

One of the easiest and cheapest ways to make a HUGE impact on health is by drinking water. Before diving into any nutritional changes, this is always where I start with my clients. Very few people are drinking anywhere close to their body’s ideal water intake, which is about half of the individual’s body weight in ounces.

Benefits of drinking water

In case you need some convincing, here are some of the benefits of drinking water:

  • Aids in weight loss
  • Keeps digestion moving
  • Improves portion control at meals
  • Clears skin and reduces breakouts
  • Improves mood
  • Prevents headaches
  • Fights fatigue
  • Increases alertness
  • Helps to clear toxins from body
  • Boosts immune system
  • May protect against certain cancers

Drinking the majority of your water during the first half of the day has a big impact on beating cravings and avoiding overeating since when we reach for a snack it is usually thirst speaking, not hunger. I recommend drinking 32 oz before 10 am and a total of 64oz by 1 pm.

Some people love the taste of water, and some do not. While I recommend that most of your water be consumed plain, there are a lot of fun ways to flavor some of your daily water in a healthy way (step away from the Crystal Light!), and my recent favorite is using Two Leaves and a Bud’s new Purpose-Filled Tea. Two Leaves and a Bud is already my favorite tea company, thanks to their organic ingredients, and their commitment to small farms and to giving back, but I am a huge fan of this new line.

With the weather warming up already, I’m gravitating towards room temperature water and these teas are amazing infused in water. I like to put the tea bags in mason jars, fill them up with water, and go! Then not only are you benefiting from the added hydration, but the herbs that Two Leaves uses are truly wonderful for your health.

And to make you feel even better about it, Two Leaves donates 1% of profits of these teas to Protect Our Winters, the leading climate advocacy organization for the outdoor sports community. As someone who loves to enjoy nature’s playground, this cause is very near and dear to my heart.

Once you become a water devotee, you will feel the difference everywhere. How you sleep, making healthier food choices, feeling more energetic, having more stamina in your workouts... try it and see how it goes!
